I've burned 16 identical DVD-Rs...
...at least, that was what I thought :
in my Mac not a single DVD-R causes any trouble
but only 8 out of 16 are recognized by my stand-alone Philips DVD-player
and only 5 out of 16 work on my IBM-PC running Windows ME and WinDVD5...
(so 8 DVD-Rs are recognized neither by the PC, nor by the DVD-player...)
I've burned all 16 Imation DVD-Rs in MacOSX 10.3.2 using Toast 6 Titanium in DVD-ROM (UDF) format at 'best' speed...
(I have an internal NEC 1300a DVD+/-writer in my G4-AGP)
anyone any ideas on how to 'cure' those 'half-baked' DVD-Rs ??
Thanks !!

I have bought a stack of 25 Imation DVDs and 25% of them give me trouble. In toast I get a media error. Don't have a fix but I have a suggestion. NO IMATION!!!
-
in my case none of the Imation DVD-Rs give trouble on my Mac...
...Toast burns and verifies all smoothly...
...if I want to burn DVD-Rs I do not have much options next to Imation I guess...
...the only other brands I can get around here are TraxData, Nashua and M-More...
...if my intuition is right, those are even less reliable brands...
is there a little 'extra burning' I can do on those 'half-baked' disks to get them recognized by PCs ??
Anyone ??
Thanks !!

no
once they are burned they are burned.
odd that was an outcome... never heard of this before
sorry -
a friend of mine gave me 10 imation dvd-r's over the weekend. they turned out to be ritek g03's.. i dont buy memorex, but i wasnt going to say no to free dvd-r's.. they've worked out great for me so far.
have you guys checked to see who manufactures the discs? -
There really is only one answer...RITEK G04!!! These things have burned flawlessly at the highest speeds both of my burners(PC and MAC) could do. and they have played in every DVD player I've put them in.
They really are the best out there. -
I rock the Skys. They are sweet. The tops as MIRRORED. how much cooler can they get?

Don't rule out that the drive may be malfunctioning. I've known disc burners that create discs that only can be read by that device -- possibly due to an underpowered laser. If the reliability problem continues with other quality media, then I'd be suspect of a defective drive. Also try burning at 1X speed (for the same reason).

You should go online and buy some Ritek ones. Just put Ritek in google and it will find you some place selling them. Its the only way to go.

If my drive would be malfunctioning...
...I would get an error-message while Toast starts verifying wouldn't I ??
...so I don't think my drive is malfunctioning - because I get a message that Toast has verified the burned media and it's okay...
FYI - I have the latest firmware (1.0A) running on my drive, so it should be able to burn (nearly) all media without any problems...
(according to NEC that is...)
anyone any ideas that don't require me to burn these DVD-Rs all over again ??
Thanks!!

I think I'm on to something...
...retrying my new-burned DVD-Rs, I seem to notice that even in my Mac some DVD-Rs take longer to mount than others...
...as far as I can test, it seems to be that the ones that take longer to boot on the Mac, will fail on the PC (and the stand-alone DVD-Player)...
...has anyone had this experience ??
...and : is there some piece of software that will help PC-users to increase the effort their machine will put into recognizing the media ??
Thanks !!
