I cap using a Panasonic E80 standalone, import to computer with DVD-RAM, edit with Womble Mpeg Video Wizard and save with the same program. I want to convert this to SVCD but specify a file size. That cannot be done with Wizard. What's the best transcoder available that does allow specified file sizes? I don't want to use DVD2SVCD as it's pretty slow because of the conversion to AVI, then back to Mpeg. Most of the other transcoders go looking for VOB files. This will not work in my case as the file is a DVD compliant Mpeg2.

  2. tmpgenc dvd author will convert your ram disc to dvd. If you want to go SVCD after that, you could just use dvdripnburn or something like that to convert to SVCD.

dvd2svcd doesnt convert to avi first .. it does frame serve - but is no sower than any other method ..

main concept can do what you want -- as well as canopus procoder , and tmpgenc ..

main concept can cut per cd or file size - you specify ...

I thought for sure that DVD2SVCD does an AVI conversion step as there is a specification for DVD2AVI in the pull down menues. Then it uses bbmpeg to convert to mpeg (again). Procoder cannot specify a file size. You get what it gives you even when using "user defined" settings. So far, Mainconcept seems to be along the lines I am looking for...

dvd2svcd uses dvd2avi for frame serving .. bbmpeg is not used as a encoder but as a multiplexer

the encoder choices are procoder , tmpgenc or CCE

Canopus Procoder has a file size specification (or you set time also) - its in the ->>target -->advanced , 5th, 6th, 7th item down from the top ..
you can set any time or file size you wish and procoder will split the files.

    so can tmpgenc

so can CCE (if you do a little math as it does have encode range)
