Just looked in todays OD flyer and it has a buy 1,get 1 free sale on maxell dvd+r/-r discs for $26.97, but they have to be the same format to get the other 1 free. I looked on their website and they don't seem to carry 15-packs of Maxells, so i assume it's a special buy of some kind. If anybody has any knowledge of who actually makes them please post it. I'm highly interested. Thanks!

Be wary of blue 1x RITEKG03 in those packs.

The yellow 4x MXLRG02 are a nice find!
The blue 2x MXLRG01 are great find too.

  5. I bought some dvd+r today; they are RICOHJPN-RO1-02. In particular, I like the packaging in that they put a sponge doughnut at the bottom of the stack (to absorb handling shock, I guess).

I use Plextor 708A (104 firmware) and Nero, and I can burn at 8x with confidence. Very nice indeed!

I bought the maxell dvd-r from office depot today. Thanks for the heads up on the MXLRGO2! I was wondering if these were good discs or not. This will be the first time for me to use maxell with my Plextor 708A.

  8. I went to office depot today with the intention of buying dvd+r discs but upon seeing "made in Japan" for the dvd-r discs, I just could not resist. I like +r discs because of the bitsetting feature but made in Japan is just too good. I ended up buying two 15 packs of the dvd-r. I will probably return tomorrow and pick up 2 more I will also get the dvd+r since someone here mentioned that they are ricoch. It seems hard to find dvd+r that are ricoch these days since TDK and Memorex and maybe even Imation are switching over to CMC. God only knows what you will get these days!

I bought one of each of the -R and + R before the 2-for-1 sale started. Now I'm gonna have to go back and buy some more. The yellow DVD-R are MXL media code and the blue DVD +R are RICOHJPN.
They are packaged 15 disks in a 25-disk-size cake box, with a styrofoam "doughnut" over the hub on the bottom to raise the stack to the top of the box and also to protect the bottom disk's recording surface.
    Both are Excellent disks.

Today I bought 2 more spindles of dvd-r. Luckily I called and had them put 2 on hold for me. They only had 6 spindles left when I got there.

  11. this was a great deal... got the Yellow Japan 4x ones... there was No limit! but many OD's didn't stock them at all, the ones that did still had them today, so the general public doesn't see this as a "great deal" they just want the cheapest, no concern for quality... great we win, for now, until they are all cheap crap to compete...

but... c'mon Maxell...can't you improve on the packaging procedure?? Gloves? a machine? I just opened one pack and the top disc is trashed finger prints all over it and some nasty smear.. looks like a rental DVD. And yes this was sealed it the Maxell shrink wrap.
I don't recall ever seeing stuff like this with CDRs.
