  1. I have heard that using TMPGEnc to encode audio is bad. It distorts the sound. "Use it to encode video only." So I converted my AVI into a mute MPEG2.

I then extracted the sound from the AVI as WAV and converted into AC3.

Now, how do I put it all together and burn onto dvd? AC3 + MPEG2?
    TMPGEnc Author doesn't support this!

    Thanks!

  2. DVDLab will accept and burn the two seperate files, or Sonic MyDVD will burn them if muxed first with TMPGenc.

  4. Nelson37,

Mixing it with TMPGEnc would be PERFECT, but that would defeat the whole purpose of why I'm taking this long way. I read that TMPGEnc does a real bad job at encoding sound. It makes sense because of the 4-5 dvd movies I've shot and burned to disc have all had pretty bad sound quality.

But thanks for the DVDLab suggestion... I will try that.

Does anyone know of another way?

You dont have to mux it,tmpgenc dvd author supports mpv/mv1/mv2 and ac3 imports without muxing first.

  6. Muxing isn't the same as encoding!! You've already got your ac3 file.

Anyway Tmpgenc DVD Author does take ac3 as input. I think your problem might be with your 'mute mpg2' . I'm betting that it's a full video+ (Albeit silent)audio stream. You really need just the video stream which would be an m2v file. I'm only guessing but that could be the cause of TDA not working.

  7. Thanks guys.

I'm trying it now, and when I open an AC3 file, a window says, "This is an illegal file. For DVD use, you can only use MPEG 1 or MPEG 2".

Is there a guide for all of this? I couldn't find any...

I'll second that. Anyone to carry the motion ?

Its funny what happens when you try to tell your computer that an audio stream is a video stream.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Older TMPGEnc versions has sub-optimal audio encoding (internally), but you could always get around that by checking the "external encoder" option and using TooLame.

Newer versions are supposed to have been greatly improved. (I have an older version, so I wouldn't know)
