I am thinking of buying MPEG card for sometime.. but I have these following doubts.
Is there any quality difference if I use MPEG card for converting AVI to MPEG-2 compared to Software encoding?
How much does these cards cost and how much time does it take to convert 1hour of AVI to MPEG?
Thanks in advance..

If you want a fast mpeg encoder get a fast cpu(2Ghz+) and Cinema Craft Encoder Basic.

Very true. Having a hardware encoder only affects capturing. There is no speed increase when converting from file to file. Cinema Craft Encoder is certainly one of the best(some argue the best) encoders there is but it isn't exactly user friendly for beginners. Another fast encoder that's a little easier to use is Mainconcept MPEG Encoder. But as Baldrick said, speed will only be as good as your CPU.
