  1. Ok I have a pioneer dvr-104 drive with the newest firmware. A while back I had burned 1 or 2 4x discs with it before i upgraded the firmware. now they burned fine but then the next few discs i tried to burn errored out in nero. which makes sense considering what i leared a bit later.. that they cant handle 4x discs.. so i was fretting that i had burned out my laser but i upgraded to the best firmware at the time and tried again. and voila i burned about 3 or 4 more dvds with no problems yippie.. then i wanted to install a game so i put in my other much faster drive for cd's .... now i just recently came back to try and burn a dvd and now nothing... the dvr-104 wont read ANY and i mean ANY disc that i have tried.. a light comes on and it spins up.. the laser even fires but it will not recognize that there is any disc in the drive.... if the laser was burned out it wouldnt even fire when a disc in put in would it>? just wondering... i dont know if anyone can help me but please please try.. thanks in advance.

I flashed my 104 with 1.41 firmware and it's now a CDR,it won't read any DVD's. Pioneer warns on there website that using 4x disks could burn out the laser and advises upgrading to 1.30 or higher. I followed there warning and turned my 104 into an expensive CDR.
