I have a new Pioneer DVD-RW 8X DVR-107d. it was 'white box' for $145 its 8x. I put it in my G4 Dual lower bay, and it is recognized by sys profiler ( OS 10.3.2) and Toast 6 with ujpdate recognizes the drive.
I tried to burn an extracted video file, and some of the clips appeared in the toast pane under video, but when I went to burn the 4.3 gb file, toast said that "4.3gb needed, 876.1 MB available"
I ahve not tried to burn data, as I want the video to play in a regular DVD payer. the files themselfs play well on the mac using DVD payer (os version)
whats up? any ideas?
thanks rotut

If you have a VIDEO_TS folder, put it in the DATA section of toast, under the UDF format. If you just have video files, you need to create a VIDEO_TS structure, and it sounds like toast isn't the solution you should try.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

i thought for sure this was replied to before by me
oh well
short and sweet
1. toast will give that error if the encoding results in files larger than 4.4 gigs
2. you cna still go ahead and process just save to disk image rather than burn
3. mount the image that is made by toast
4. use dvd2one to make it then fit to 4.4 gig dvdr
piece of cake no? -
terms on the extraction as in ..............? what do you mean by that?
yes dvd2one can make it into 2 dvd's you would use the Layer function of its MOVIE ONLY aspect -

Fantastic! through your various links and efforts Im begining to understand the issues.
Many thanks. ive seen now what the various files mean on the 'extracted' video files.
my last ( what a pest, there might be more!) Q is can I see the individual files before I 'burn' them on a DVD? my ultimate goal is to simply archive the movie myself, and split it without further degradation on to to DVD's rather than use a program like DVD2ONE.
I asume the second DVD needs a Video and audio folder as the first?
thanks again for your time and insight!

the .vob files yes. they are the video component of a back up. Simply drag them to to VLC icon and you can watch them off your HD.
VLC is Video lan Client and can be gotten here

you cant just take .vob's and pile them into a VIDEO_TS folder and then burn the folder and have it work.
What isnt mentioned on the page linked to above is what each of the files actually do! .ifo are structural components of a dvd and they are involved in processing of the dvd by the dvd player. they enable the player to know where the actual .vob files are located and when to access them at what time.
Dvd2one is great because it preservs the .ifo/.bup files needed for the dvd to be a "spec" dvd and you can change the .vob structure.
make since?
what you want is possible, but it requires more effort than just ripping, merging and burning
