  1. I am in China and the latest American movies on DVD are about 50 cents. I am told that it costs less than a penny to make a DVD, so the profit is really good. The disks are sold everywhere in shops and also by vendors on the street. I have heard in the news of crackdowns on these pirated goods, but so far have not seen any evidence of a crackdown. Because they are so cheap, many people just throw the disks away after using them (like an old newspaper). I have accumulated quite a few discarded movies in this way.

    i have purchased a number of the latest DVDs while in an Asian country (cost about $1 USD), and let me tell you I certainly got what i paid for...worst quality video available. Latest releases there are (i think based on the quality) DivX-cam conversions to mpeg2. VHS is a step better! What is worth getting are the animated (disney/pixar)stuff...quality is very good.
