  1. I have a movie with 2 channel AC3 DVM audio, and when I load the file into Gspot it says I have compatible codecs. When I load the avi into VirtualDub to extract the audio it says no audio decompressor could be found to decompress the audio format. Can someone help me. Thanks

  2. Virtualdub cannot convert Ac3. There are several alternative methods you can try. I believe there is a virtualdub_ac3 version that may do what you want. Otherwise try this.

Using virtualdub, open the avi and set audio-direct stream copy and file->save wav. You should now have movie.wav of your HD. Rename to movie.ac3.

Download ac3fix.exe and put it in the same directory as you movie.ac3.

On the command line type "ac3fix movie.ac3 movie2.ac3" Hit return and let it run.

Now download and install HeadAc3he. Select movie2.ac3 as the input, and select an movie2.wav as the output. Set options for wav (or whatever output format you need) and hit start. Let it do its stuff and you should end up with the result you need.

  4. I found the file vdub_ac3, but when I load the video and try to convert the audio the program comes up with the error ACM failed to suggest audio compression format

  5. I'd recommend GoldWave - load your video file into it, then Save as.. a wav.

You may also want to normalise the wav (Effects->Volume->Maximize) as the converted audio from an AC3 always seems to come out very quiet.

You can then use the wav as your audio source.

    cheers,

  6. One more question. What happens if I just load the original file into dvd2svcd and let it run, would that be a mistake in terms of a/v sync?

Dvd2svcd will de-multiplex for you. so it should be OK.
