Okay, in the original AVI the picture is fine when played in a player. (WMP, Divx Player) But when I try to convert it, the picture will slowly have red fade in a little bit than then it will disappear, then slowly come back again over the entire avi. I was using TMPGEnc when it started doing this, at first I thought it was TMPGEnc as it even does this before being converted when I view it in the program.
So then, thinking it was just TMPGEnc I just tried having Movie Factory 2 do everything, I looked at the video before doing anything and it looked fine... Then I converted and made my VCD and played it in my DVD Player (Apex AD-1130w) where it had the problem again! The video compressor for the original version is MS-MPEG4 V3...
If you need more info, I'll give it... Because I'm not totally sure what is needed... Plus I'm tired, which isn't helping my brain function... Well, what little funtion it has, heh.

Hmmm... Well, it was having the problem before playing it on my DVD Player, and before it was made into a VCD, though the source file didn't show this problem in either WMP or Divx Player, when I previewed it in TMPGEnc it would have this problem. BTW I used this guide primarily for converting: https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?link=346
I noticed in the original it fades in and out a little bit but instead of being red, it's just slightly darkening and isn't nearly as noticable as this being done but with a reddish hue... -
Macrovision has been known to do both fade in/out and lighten/darken. Was the original video a commercial source?

I dunno why I bothered mentioning the DVD Player, I know it isn't that.... I'm going to try having Virtual Dub convert the AVI file, if it can... Or I might use another program I have to do it and see if just converting it that way changes the video.... Because as I said, it only does this when using TMPGEnc and shows this after being converted... I could post an example but I dunno if I'd be violating the TOS...

Well, I just tried converting it to an AVI file that my DVD Player is supposedly able to read and it doesn't do it, it looks like the AVI I downloaded without the red shade fading in and going out. I just changed the MPEG-4 V3 to V1 though, I already had tried to see if the player read an AVI with MPEG-4 V3 and it didn't though I'm betting it might with an earlier version... Oh and V3 is a hack right? Maybe that's the problem with my Player reading it, heh....
So yeah, the converting the AVI to another AVI did work and it looks the same, but that's a small problem because I was able to clean up the video a bit with TMPGEnc and cropped some stuff off the top and bottom that was used to "advertise" who made the file. If there' another program that can be used to do a similar thing, I guess I might try that... Though I really do prefer making these into VCD so that they're more compatible with other Players, heh. But it is a bit annoying with the red fading in and going out all the time... Maybe I'll just burn it with this anyway, since the VCD is only going to be used for a short time anyway. -
I take it no one here has had the same problem I have?
If you need an example, I can take cap of a movie where I'm having this problem, though I dunno if it would be against the TOS.... -
Okay, here's an example I took this while using TMPGEnc the one on the left is what I'm asking about.. The one on the right is the next frame from the same file and is normal..
It doesn't do this when using a program like WMP to watch the video.. But it does when looking at it through TMPGEnc and when it's converted to MPEG it will do it no matter what program I use and also does it when made into a VCD.... -
Any other idea of what the problem could be? I'm certain that it isn't Macrovision. Like I said, that red or whatever color slowly fades in and then goes out and then repeats.

The movie looks familiar. I have heard of certain downloaded ones containing anticopying streams. Which movie is this one, and where did it come from? Also it may also be your player. do any of your other movies do this?
Hello. -
It's from Big Fish and yeah... All of the downloaded movies with the MS-MPEG 4 V3 compression I have do this... Could it be the video compression for the AVI files?

My bet would be that you have the nimo codec pack installed. I had the same exact problem and the only thing I did recently was install the pack. Tonight I unistalled it...which messed up my xvid and divx stuff and my ac3 codec. After re-installing my xvid divx and ac3 stuff my initial test shows that the problem is gone.
I should know more tomorrow. Hope this gives some insight. -
HOLY BANANA! :O THANK YOU! It was that ****ing Nimo Codec pack! I could have sworn that I uninstalled it a long time ago!
Thanks! Case FINALLY closed!
Now the only problem I have is Ulead Movie Factory 2 and Nero wanting to make my VCD's 352x240.... Which is hurting the picture quality.Because I'm cropping them a little bit to get rid of some junk. Maybe I should just get VCD Easy... Does it do that as well?
Then again my DVD player plays Raw MPEGs too, though I want them to be compatible with other players too... -
I know exactly what the problem is, and it is the either the angel portion codec or the indeo codec, dont remember whcih one exactly.

also i should point out we found out that some models nvidia cards are displaying a color issues with wmv files with some drivers"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
