I'm trying to frameserve a video file from VirtualDUB to TMPGEnc (latest version) and TMPGEnc keeps giving the "cannot read file or unsupported" error. The codecs are loaded properly, GSpot reports DivX video with all codecs installed. The Directshow Multimedia Reader is set at priority 2 at the top of the list. Still getting the problem. Not sure what to try next. Ideas?

Forgive me for asking but you did install the handler using "auxsetup.exe", didn't you? If you did already then you may need to raise the Directshow VFAPI plugin priority in TMPGEnc.

Edit: Saw that you already raised the priority, nevermind.

Got the same problem. I've had done several movies van divx to dvd without a problem. The movie tears of the sun gave me the same problem as you discribe.

I am busy doing the movie on "the long way" (saving as avi in virtualdub (extreme big files (38 gig)) and then using tempenc for dvd)

I did get it fixed, although I don't know what the exact problem was. I went back and uninstalled TMPGEnc and VirtualDUB entirely and then did a clean install and it worked. Wherever the problem was, the fresh install fixed it.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions! It's nice to know that there are knowledgeable people around.
