Is anyone certain whether or not DirectTV can be sent to the Formac Studio TVR? I am doing research on some TV tuners for Mac. I just need to find out whether or not I can set up this format with my DirectTV connection.

If you are talking about analog A/V out on the Sat receiver to analog A/V input connections on the Formac, yes it works. There are no flags or anything like that to prevent recording (the quality is too low to worry about).
