I did a pre-order of the new Pinnacle Studio 9 at a reduced cost thinking I would have it at least by the time it hit the retail stores. As my luck would have it, my pre-order is now on backorder and they expect to ship it to me on the 16th.

I was wondering if anyone has had an opportunity to work with this new version and their thoughts? I was wanting to hear some opinions on the stability (better than ver. 8?), being able to create widescreen movies?, is the compression still constant bitrate or have they been able to implement a variable bitrate?

I know that DonPedro and Will Hay are experts in the field of PS8. Have any of you been able to experiment?

    Thanks.

  2. I bought it yesterday and have yet to export a single mpg that works with audio synch. I have 4 other programs on my hard drive that render with perfect synchronization every time, but Studio 9 isn't even close. It's neither a problem of system specs or hard drive fragmentation, either.

Hope you have a DV camera, Studio 9 doesn't work with my DC10 capture card.

  4. It is definately more stable than studio 8. I have not had the problems that accountwiz is mentioning with version 9 as of yet, but I am still testing. As for the dc10, Pinnacle has released driver updates for the dc10 to work with studio 9 at

I purchase mine at Fry's, I matched best buys sale of $69.99 plus $20 upgrade mail in rebate making Studio 9 $49.99. The Surround Audio sounds good, the free update from HFX 4.67 to HFX 5.2 is cool. The plugin support looks interesting, so we will see what is to come in the future.

  5. dun4cheap, good to see you here too

BTW: I am waiting for upgrade for $59.99 (no tax, no shipping) Too bad that I didn't know sooner about Best Buy deal

Anyway... it sounds prommising... couple of new features. At Pinnacle's forum you can find link to small review. I think that link to review website might be part of "my post".

  6. Well Best Buys deal is good all week long. Cancel your upgrade. I did have a smal problem with the Upgrader, but its been solved now. You will like the Studio 9.

So far looks like a steal for DV editing (high end features for a fraction of the cost).

Take a look at the Pinnacle Forum on their website. It seems as though all the old ver 8 problems are starting to re-appear. I personally dumped Studio 8 and moved to Sony Screenblast Movie Studio. I certainly wont buy a Pinnacle product again. You can check Screenblasts forum and find many happy ex Pinnacle users

  10. I could kick myself for impetuously jumping on Best Buy's sale of this. It's impressive in concept, but the ONLY one of 5 rendering programs I own that will not maintain audio synch.

Pinnacle has so much promise and such poor execution.

Thanks for all the great info. I also wish I had heard about Best Buy's sale as well. I could try and cancel my order - they've advised me it won't ship until the 16th - but I'm not sure it would be worth the hassle.

A big thanks to dun4cheap for providing the information and link about the DC10 driver update.

I'll go ahead and grab that now, just in case they decide to ship my order sooner.

Considering all the enhancements in Studio 9, leaving out audio sync is a huge mistake. Too bad that there are already voices (as per previous posts) indicating that this is still an issue. It is such a nice app and pleasure to use.

  13. I don't think that OOS is common problem with PS9. At least I didn't get that feeling from posts in Pinnacle Forum.

Let's hope so. I really like Studio 8. Just add auto color correction (only Avid has it as far as I know), camera shake filter, sorround processing etc. and you get a very powerfull and cheap package. Hope it turns out OK as I like Pinnacle for delivering great and quite affordable apps.
