i am having so much trouble when it comes to burning the files i want onto dvd.it seems that after ive encoded my avi files with tmpgenc and used virtual dub etc the file starts to jerk as a camera moving scene comes along its as though the frames arent enough BUT i am doing the frames as what the file says they should be.this jerking happens before i even put them onto dvd and when i do it gets worse.it becomes so bad that you cant even watch the film.could someone please explain to me why its doing this???and also could someone tell me what exact programs they use when converting an avi file.

I used to get this problem when converting from NTSC to PAL using TMPGENC or when playing NTSC DVDs on my player.
I switched to using Canopus Procoder(1.5) to do my encoding. It's not as fast as tmpgenc, but the output is far better (especially converting to PAL).
Tools I use:-
Virtual Dub
Generally I separate the video(direct stream) and audio uncompressed (full processing, select PCM compression, save wav).
Then recombine using one of the ADPCM (audio) compressions (constant bitrate)
This tends to eliminate any sound synch problems.
Optionally I split the AVI into smaller overlapping parts with Virtualdub, this means I can set up a batch process in procoder later on.
Headache (to un-ac3 sound)
If the AVI file has ac3 sound, just use "save wav" in virtual dub, rename to .ac3 and headache to a wav.
(For some strange reason I have to delete the headache.ini file each time I run it, otherwise it crashes).
Canopus procoder
Convert the AVI to MPEG2. I normally output to an mpeg2 program stream see MPEGVCR below.
MPEGVCR (womble)
Because my pc is used by my whole family and Canopus takes a while to encode, I split the AVI into smaller (overlapping) parts to convert them in a batch. This means that I can restart my machine, just losing the last part of the encoding process. Because I convert into an MPEG program stream, I can then re-join these files together to make my final MPEG file ready for DVD.
