Sharp DVRW2U Edit Question

I have a Sharp DVRW machine. I have recorded numerous movies from HBO and the like and used the name edit function without a problem. However, I now have a kids movie recorded on a RW disk and want to edit out commercials. When I hit the edit button the only option is to edit the name. I recorded in VR mode which states that I should be able to edit the disk. My question is what am I doing wrong or what am I missing?
