  1. Hello, I could use some help? I'm planning to buy a DVD Recorder soon. I see the Phillips DVD R75 has a lot to offer. I been reading good and bad about this unit. Can someone recomend if this unit will be good for Recording VHS to DVD R-RW....DVD to DVD R-RW and TV to DVD R-RW? Any Information would be very appreciated.
I'm brand new on here and hope I'm in the right chat room.

    Thanks

Well I beleive that the panasonic models are better than the philips brand and I have heard and read in this forum the trouble the philips have caused some people here . I have the panasonic E80-H and I had the e-20 and I compared these two models with the philips and the panasonic had a better picture but thats my own opinion . And finally the E-80 is the best unit ive ever had I just record my video tapes to the hard drive then edit and remove what I dont want and burn them to a dvd-r.

  3. I have the DVDR75, it will not override macrovision, which is as can be expected, if the tape is in poor quality it will not copy it without blanking out due to a weak signal, which I got around by using a cheap video amplifier, but some old tapes are just dead, bummer. I do get slightly better dvd quality than the tape, so I am happy with the tape to dvd transfers. I do not have the recent firmware release as it works great for my purposes as is. I might have tried the panasonic, but I have no use for ram and would rather have +rw. Try the panasonic from walmart, if you don't care for it, get the philips. Walmart has a 90 day return policy, if you have a walmart. I wouldn't buy online unless you get a fantastic price. Buying online can make it difficult to return. I got the Philips thru completehome.com club to which I am a member, I get a rebate based on gas use, the recorder was $399, 2 yr extended warrenty, $69, and then a $200 rebate based on $2000 worth of gas purchased for the year, S & H about $28. The member ship was $60 so my rebate is actually $140. Probably way too much info.....Oh, I my only problem is mentioned above, a weak signal from the source vcr. I don't know if the panasonic has that problem.

  4. I Have the Sima Stabilizer, will this work on the Phillips R75 and Pannasonic E80H to stabilize the tapes? I feel like this is a catch 22. I hear people having problems with the Phillips R75 and A lot people say the Panasonic E80H is better. The Phillips has the DVD-RW And The Panasonic doesn't. If i wanted to record TV shows, wouldn't the DVD-RW be the one to get so I can erase them time to time. I don't know anything about the DVD Ram and how It works. I planned on buying a DVD recorder today and now I'm so confused. Any last sugestions from anyone to convince me on which unit I should buy. Thanks for all you help and comments.

  5. Redtop,
I own the philips DVDR75. So far i've made 5 discs from VHS with no problems. As far as weak signal, I think it may depend on the kind of VCR your using. I have an SVHS with S-Video out. My first recording was my worst tape and it recorded with no problem.

I think it comes down to what your purpose is. If you just want to replace your VHS tapes any one of them would do. I believe the Panasonic is the one with the hard drive, correct? If so, it's a nice thing to have. I can't compare the two because i've never owned the Panasonic.

Some nice extra features about the Philips that others don't have is,
    1. Component video in
    2. i Link connection

If you have any specific questions i'll be glad to answer them.

  6. If you do a good search, you will find there are problems with panasonic as well. It may be a was it made on Monday, Wednesday or Friday kind of thing. My old video clarifyier works with my old prerecorded tapes going to dvd, which I have read it shouldn't. Only way to find out for sure is try it.
