i have the digetal cable and need to know what type of format it is so i can convert it to dvd+r any help would be great thanks

its digital compressed mpeg .. you can't capture it as it is -- it has to be converted to analog ......

If the only outputs from your digital cable box hook up to a standard tv, then the only way to get the signal out of the cable box is as analog. This is likely to be your case.
If this is your case, then you must re-digitize it to get it on to dvd+r. Analog capture would be the term. Same as for any analog source.
