i looked on the lastest news part of the message board and it said there is a firmware that allows 8x burning to all 4x -r disks(ritek g04's which i have) i downloaded the official version off of the link given and i cant burn my g04s at 8x. it says my a07 already has firmware v1.05. can anyone help?

It's a hacked version of 1.05 firmware, not an official version from Pioneer. Read the following link before deciding if it is right for you:

Basically the hacked firmware just unlocks the 6X and 8X burning restrictions on DVD-R discs, and made the FUJIFILM03 disc's 6X and 8X write strategy available to all DVD-R discs. So far the KProbe results indicated that most cheap 4X DVD-R discs burned at 8X showed rather high errors. Unless you have high quality 4X DVD-R discs made by Taiyo Yuden, Maxell, or Mitsubishi, forcing the 8X burning may not be a wise move. Of course, YMMV.
