  1. Hi.

I am completely new to this aspect of technology, so forgive me if you think this is an idiotic question. Being the owner of about 500 documentaries and oldie films, I want to transfer them all onto DVD to save storage space.

The Philips DVDR80 stand-alone recorder has been recommended for copying VHS onto DVD, but before I buy one can someone tell me this, please?

Will a DVD that I record on a Philips DVDR80, and runs for say 3 hours play back on a standard DVD player, or will it only play back on the DVDR80 ? The blurb I have got from the internet does not make this absolutely clear.

Great Forum, have put it into Favorites !
    Thanks.
    Baz.

The Philips 80 is supposed to be the most reliable of the Philips line. I myself have an old Philips 985 and have had no problems with it.....however I do not play DVD's in mine. I use it to record only. My DVD player takes care of the rest....you may want to consider the same when investing in such an expensive machine.
Having said that....I believe I have answered your question. Whatever you make in an 80 WILL play on most DVD players. Nobody can claim 100% compatibility so that is why you are seeing conflicting reports. I have yet to have any issues with anything created in my Philips machine.
Believe it or not it is the expensive DVD players that give home-made DVD's the most trouble....whether from a recorder or from a computer DVD burner.
