Thanks I have already searched. Why would I post if I didn't search. If you don't know the answer why did you bother to post. If you do know the answer then why didn't you just tell me.

Don't you love it when someone spends twice as long lecturing as it would have taken to answer your question ?
Although I do understand. It gets frustrating answering the same questions.

That being said, I found this by "searching" "difference between 411s and 451s "-

    Tom

Different PUH (pick up heads) to seek the DVD or CD faster is all Lite-On says is different .It is also easier to upgrade a 451s to a 851s because the 8x calibration data is present.

The difference between a 411 & 811 is primarily the EEPROM and laser strength (18w vs 30w). A 411S can be converted to a 811S with a modified EEPROM and hacked firmware.

The difference between a 411S & a 451S is the EEPROMs and the pickup heads.

A 451S can be converted to an 851S by using a hacked firmware.

    The difference between a 811S & 851S is the same as the 411S & 811S.

I actually haven't seen anything stating the 811s laser is different than the 411s, only that it takes more laser power to burn at 8x than 4x. For all I know the lasers could be identical. It would make sense in the respect that larger quantities of same parts and one drive being manufactured with just different labels and eeproms would = lower costs.
