Have you just tried to do a dvd copy??

If it is copy protected or/and a dual layer dvd you can't copy it though.

  3. the one's i've done uses the same encryption as dvd-video(css), so i just ripped it with dvddecypter. pretty much the same procedure as backing up dvd-video's.

  5. it just rips the video_ts as that's where the multi-channel audio is. it plays fine from my hd. i haven't tried backing it up to a blank dvd disc yet but i imagine it shouldn't be any problem.

U dont get the true DVD Audio. Its sample rate is lower. Not the same as true DVD Audio. I bkup a few of my DVD Audio discs and they are inferior to the orginal. What is bkup is the 5.1 AC3/DTS (if available) sound tracks and not the high res DVD Audio tracks.

  8. te hi-rez must be the file in the audio_ts then? i tried playing those and it wouldn't play. good thing i didn't waste a dvd-r, i was about to burn one.

    edit:

i googled it a bit. dvd-video drives can only read the video_ts directory, hence, when you rip a dvd-a it'll only decrypt what's in the video_ts which is encrypted with css.

dvd-audio players otoh can read both video_ts and audio_ts directories. in audio_ts is where the high resolution audio resides and is encrypted with cppm (content protection for pre-recorded media). cppm is only used with dvd-a and is supposed to be an improvement from css.

I will try to rip the DVD audio 2nite and see. I have a DVD Audio player so I can test it out. Maybe I will not even get pass the DVD Audio protection, but I will give it a try. But I think I already tried it a few months back, ripping the audio_ts but I dont think the ripping programs even saw the audio_ts folder. I will try just using nero to copy the audio_ts folder and see it the DVD Audio can be copied if I can get pass the copy protection.

The DVD Audio disc was over 6gb

    1) use DVDshrink and very aggresive compresion on video_ts files. Brought them down to ~1gb.

    2) open a new video file copy in Nero.

    3) copy shrunken video_ts files to nero video_ts folder. Nero needs a video_ts content else it will not burn a video DVD.

    4) copy the contents of the DVD Audio folder audio_ts files to the audio_ts in nero. This took a while to do. Cannot (dont want to) compress the audio files

    5) burn on DVD+RW

    results:

menues and the AC3/DTS was working.

The hi-res DVD Audio tracks was id'd as playing, but no sound. Must be the copy protection.
