Since I do some VHS to DVD conversions for other people, I was going to spend the money on the AC-3 pack as an upgrade to my copy of Vegas 4.0 - currently $279. (Since I can't control other people getting Pioneer DVD players, and I charge money for this, I need a gaurenteed compatibility). However, if I get the upgrade for Vegas+DVD which includes the AC-3 pack, its $299.

I use DVD-Lab or IFOEdit to do all my authoriing, so I don't really need to get the DVD package, but for only $20 more would it be worth it?

I don't see myself ever using the DVD portion of the product since DVD-Lab does everything I need.

    Any thoughts?

spend the extra 20$ .. not only do you get ac3 , you get ac3 EX , and some added mpeg thing i think .....

its a back up authoring program anyway - look at it that way ..

i dont use DVDA either -- but its a bargin for the encoding features ...

I'm not a big fan of DVDA, IMO, it's really a beta, and has some quirks I don't like. However, the one thing it will do is recognize timeline markers in renders from Vegas and set them as chapter points. That's enough to make me use it. I used to have to search for the chapter points manually in my authoring app which I hated doing. BTW, I render both video and ac3 in Vegas and then import to DVDA for authoring only.

I'd spend the $20 to check it out, myself.
