I know mpeg audio is not dvd spec, but many players will playit. the question I have is this: Will any DVD player that can play vcd/svcd automatically play DVD with mpeg audio, because the mpeg audipo decoder is onboard?

1) Is there such a thing as a player that will play VCD/SVCD but will REFUSE to play DVD with mpeg audio?

2) Is there such a shting as a player that will NOT play vcd or svcd, but WILL decode mpeg audio on a dvd video disk?

The reason I ask is I am going to burn a bunch of disks, possibly with mpeg audio, if I can be sure the only requirement is that the player can play vcd/svcd, then I am god to go because I will never own a player thatdoes not support this.

I have been considering mpeg audio for one of my current projects because I am cheap and I have been reading that besweet and ffmpeg make ac3 files that are not fully compatible with all players for some reason, and I do not want to make a whole lot of content with bunk ac3 files when I can 100% make files with known GOOD mpeg audio files.

What i really want is a good, comandline driven ac3 encoder that nmakes proper files everytime. I'd pay for a thing like that if I could find it. if anyone could point me in the directionof a lowcost comercial ac3 encoder that will run from a commandline if I wish it to, please let me know. I like to use my own scripts for encoding; using gui for my encoding projects is too slow and annoying. (I make nice batch files where all I do is drag the audio file onto the batch file and it creates the ac3/mp2 audio track automtically. Or alternatively, a right click the file>encode ac3 explorer context menu)
