i am just trying burn a data DvD and it gets to about 30% in and then stops and says Communication Faliure , i have tried this number of times and same result. not always at the same pecentage, any ideas why this is happening, i am using DvD-R , it burns Cds aboustley fine,

So was wondering if any1 knew where my problem lives, any help with be very grateful, Cheers

  2. Don't know but Nero 6 is buggy as heck. I went back to Nero 5. Also if you are using an OS other than the factory installed one you could have read problems, this happened when I wiped out Window ME and installed Win2k, it takes longer to read the disc but it works.

    Try:

Updating the firmware on your writer.

    Writing at a different speed

Cleaning the disc you are writing to

    Using an RW disc

Also.....is your writer on the same IDE as the HD? If it is, it can cause this type of problem. Both drives will argue about whose turn it is and then Nero or any burning software can wig out on ya. Are you sure you have the master/slave setting on the back of your writer set correctly? Are you sure that all cables are secured properly? The *communication* failure is what sticks in my mind as being very odd.

I'd bet u a buck there is some small detail that's tossing a wrench into the whole shabang. Just find that tiny issue and you'll be back on track.

  5. Hi there i also have this problem, i have my pioneer on its on ide channel and all the usual stuff, i also use Nero 6.3 and get this problem with both dvd-r and dvd+r's, in total i have wasted about 20 discs was doing my head in so installed recordnow max 4.5 and never had a coaster yet about 25 good ones with 106d. I still wasn,t happy so contacted pioneer and they blamed my media i was using sh*tty Princo media so i changed to recomended ones and tried nero again and problem has not returned. I Really believe it is Nero at fault but cant prove it. I bought LG Gsa-4040b and installed as well as my 106d and have never looked back what a burner brillant really picky with media but it loves Riteks G04 so will stick with that for the moment. Will stick with pioneer in case rumours of dual layer burning with firmware update are true. I probably didnt help you im sorry but only can advise to use best media you can afford best of luck really mean it pisses you off when disc fails.

  6. on same IDE cable as my dvd drive, set to slave , tried using different speeds , different media, +Rw dont work in the drive for some reason. I eventually got 1 to burn last nite, i dont know if that was a fluke or problem solved but i wasted about 15 dics already. Might try that software that geezer said, but any other ideas will be very grateful

  7. It appears no one really has a solution to this problem. I too am having some issues.

I have a NEC 1300A writer and have been using Nero with Bulkpaq Orange media (x4) without a single coaster for several months. I then upgraded the NEC firmware to version 109, which flashed fine. Computer detects my writer as a NEC 1300a.

However, ever since uprading, I get a "SCSI/ATAPI Write Error" shortly after the burn starts. The disc is now a useless coaster. But when I write to Imation DVD+RW discs (x2.4), the disc burns fine. I have tried burning the Bulkpaq media at 2x & 4x speeds but get coasters every single time. And it is not the batch. I just ordered in some more Bulkpaqs, same problem.

If this is a communication error to do with the writer and SCSI/ATAPI settings or drivers, why then does Nero burn DVD+R quite fine? I have moved back to my old NEC firmware (108) but still get the same coaster problem. It can't be a firmware issue, as I am now using the original firmware that I have used to burn over 200 discs without a single coaster.

If anyone has an answer to this one, I will be very grateful indeed.

  9. Ahhh... looks like I have found my group of people:
5 bad discs out of 23 so far!!?? Which isnt as bad as most on this thread... From the looks of the .log file I am guessing it is a media issue since the error occurs while writing tracks?? I may be wayyy off...

Below is my .log file for Nero...
    Thanks for the help guys.

  10. So in a previous post someone suggested to me that I:
Install ForceASPI and update to Nero 6302

I did - and still I get the communication error and I am using a new pack of dvd-r's from a different distribution company.. same brand.. Ritek G04..

anyone out there that has resolved this problem??

    Thanks

  11. Alright boys have just RMA ed my pioneer usualess burner, will let you know how i get on if they send a replacement, i was using verbatims dvd-r's and still getting communication error and these discs are reommended by pioneer so its time it went back. I also have LG 4040b burner and when installed into same ide connector and power supply this burns eveytime, which leads me to think drive is goosed.

  12. Great coblck... I just contacted Pioneer about this as well.. got my RMA number but am waiting for your virdict before I send it out. The suggestions made by Pioneer tech. was the same as recommended on this board...

    1. Check if IDE cables are connected properly... DVD-RW drive should not be connected to the same IDE as the HD. Also check slave master settings.
    2. Enable DMA on your drive
    3. Update drivers/firmware, burning software (according to Pionner there may be problems with using Roxio or Toast burning softwares with this drive and older IDE cables - older motherboards)

Since I have already done all these they gave me an RMA #... no worries though since the warranty on this drive is 1 year from the date of purchase.

It appears no one really has a solution to this problem. I too am having some issues.
    To carrspaints:
Gawd how I hate seeing posts like this. When I read this, it tells me that you don't appreciate the time people take to try and offer solutions to problems. No-one gets paid to help folks dude. Those who reply do it out of kindness. You saying that is a bit shitty IMO.

In most cases, there is no easily identifiable solution. For just about any issue there can be a myriad of possible causes. All anyone can do is suggest things to try.
