  1. Hi
I am very new to all this and it is a tad confusing, but any plain and simple answers would be apreciated.
I have some Mpeg-1 files, 448x336, 29.97fps, 1150kbps. I would like to convert these to a DVD compliant file type to enable viewing on a standalone player.
I have been using TMPGenc to perform some test runs and am reasonably happy with what i am doing (reasonably - definately not confident!).
I would like to ask what you think would be the best resolution / bit rate to encode to.
Is it better to reduce than increase resolution - which seems to have been suggested in other threads, or would the best bet be to simply resize the Mpeg-1 to 352x240 and then recode the audio to 48khz.
Basically i would like to view these files on a DVD to the best quality (given the source) without bloating the size of the files too much.
    Thanks for any suggestions

  2. there is an old saying on the board: can't polish a turd. Basically, you NEVER want to upsize the bitrate or resolution (or audio for that matter) when doing a conversion. No matter what conversion you do, there will be A quality loss.

The 2 solutions that I see would be to:

    1. make a VCD-DVD -Baldrick has a guide using Moviefactory2 that shows you how to do this
    2. convert the VCD to dvd resolution, however, keep the VCD aspect ratio of 352x240-there is a guide called something like "convert low rez 240x240 avi" that will give you the concept to do the conversion. Basically, will encode the avi file at 448x336 or , but will have the aspect ratio of the dvd file of 720x480 (will still need to upsample the audio to 48mhz).

Let me know if you need more info.

I will give both of these a go and see which one i like best, or which one gives the most shiny turd!
    Thanks
