I have a large DVD collection and would like to make back up copies in case of scratches, damage, ect. I do not own a DVD-ROM drive or a DVD Writer.
Is is posible for me to buy a "dvd recorder" and then simply play a dvd in my dvd player on my television, while simutanously recording it in the "dvd recorder"??
I do not care about menus and stuff like that. What about macrovision?
I have tried to do searches on this site and google, but I just get more and more confused.
Thanks.

Do I even have to worry about microvision if i am going from dvd player to recorder?

If all you want to do is back-up your existing DVD collection, just buy a DVD-R burner for your computer (cheaper than a standalone DVD recorder deck!), and download DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink (freeware). That's all you'll need...and that evil macrovision bastard is removed too.

No. But I bought one so I can use DVD Writer only for writing. I am expecting from this solution that my writer will last longer. Also ripping speed is faster with DVD-ROM.Originally Posted by tylerdurdanPinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home)

I agree with donpedro here. The turnaround time from go to woe is much better with a separate DVD-ROM. I also believe in only using my burner for burning. For the same reasons I won't buy a DVD-VCR combo - I have two separate units.Originally Posted by donpedroIf in doubt, Google it.
