  2. you need a modchip installed so you can play burnt games. And remember, it is illegal to burn games that you do not own....so if you do not own the originals, stop burning!!

The differances between the ones that are bought and the ones that are burned are many. However, these differences are not what is preventing you from playing DVD-R's. I think older version PS2's do not support dvd-r very well. If you have the new version of sony's ps2 dvd player you should be fine though (at least that's what I've read). If you are having problems with a newer version ps2, I would venture to say it may be your media or the method in which you burnt your dvd-r. Do these dvd-rs in question work in a normal standalone dvd player? - I guess that problem would be caused by differences between press dvd's and burnt dvd's... thus, making the entire second sentence complete rubbish.

Also, nevermind the previous post from vdk_au. Some people just enjoy browsing the forums for someone to jump on. (although there was no mention of using dvd-r backup games in your original post).

  7. What is the deal with Ritek DVDR's? I keep hearing so much about them, but the only ones i can find are those unprotected silver-top ones.

  8. My ps2 plays dvd +r's,rw's.

but lately i have been trying to play a burnt dvd, and had some success.
at first it would say "unable to read disc",

so then i copied it to the hd, and ran it thru tmpgenc dvd author, and got it to play.. it played jumpy, and froze in a couple spots, so i figured i should burn it at a slower rate, but i cant find it with nero, and i cant switch the speeds in tmpgenc dvd author..

    any help?

There are 9 or more versions of PS2s.

The Version 1,2,3 will not play DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW (well MCC 2x ones anyways).

Not sure about the Version 4's playing DVD+R. Version 5 on will play DVD+Rs.

You can try to change the book setting on your DVD+Rs. This will identify the DVD+R burnt disc as something other than DVD+R. This usually raises compatibilty to almost the same as DVD-R.
