It seemed as it it was bound to happen eventually. Divx tried it years ago and failed, why should this be any different.

    Imagine…
Hit movies at rental prices everywhere you shop – not just the video store.

$7 is a "rental price"? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  4. Sounds like the people at Disney need to be taught how to do a simple SWOT and Situation analysis.

Now here's what I am guessing their business meeting was like:

  5. I'm actually surprised it lasted as long as it did.

The idead should have never made it past the napkin it was scribbled on.

They should unfreeze Walt and get him to chair the next focus group

They need to be on this forum. We all knew it would flop bigtime. $7 rental? Get real. Even a $3 rental, same as local Blockbuster first-run releases, isn't worth the hassle of buying it retail.

Roy Disney just quit over this and also that disney is cheap at everything now (as in new attractions at theme parks) ...

He said the whole situation made him sick (and he owns part of the company) ..... his resignation letter was on cnn web site ..

  9. Disney is slowly digging its own grave. It is going to be hurt badly once their partnership with Pixar ends and lets face it, their own animation team is nothing like it used to be at producing hit animated movies (Lion King, Aladdin, Little Mermaid etc) and is now left pumping out straight to video sequels and other dismal first run movies.

  10. to add insult to injury the movies they offerred were not even new releases. i think they are B or worst rated movies. it's a good thing Disney still produce good animations to keep them afloat financially. but decisions to go the route of disposible dvd...if i were a stockholder i would suggest a recall of the entire board for throwing my money into junk ventures. Bad enough Disney is involved in pornos which is why i have not become a shareholder (anyone read the book The Mouse That Roared? very interesting look at the REAL Disney )....

  11. With this, Roy's departure, parks looking like depresses areas, animation groups being shut down etc. I am wondering if Mr Eisners will even make it to 06 when his contract goes up in smoke!

Heck even Blockbuster and Hollywood video sells there previous rented DVD/VHS for not much more. So why buy something that autodestructs.

    Another greate DOA idea!

I agree! Unthaw Walt and he can explane it to these people!

  12. Glad that stupid idea went the way of the dinosaurs.
People finally learned how to say "no" to scams like this disguised as a marketing idea.
    Good Riddance!!!!

Actually, Roy Disney has put up a website to address this type of decision making:

Um, no. They don't even do that. Pixar made all of their recent movies and that partnership is now dead too. Glad I don't own Disney stock!

And let's not forget that Disney, just this past year when the copyright on Mickey Mouse (first cartoon) expired, ran to Congress to fix that.

    And they did.

So much for playing by the rules.

Don't like them? Got the money?

    Change them!
