The original DVD is in region 4. I was able to play it on my puter using PowerDVD 4, but I can't play it using Pioneer DV-535K (even my Pioneer says it plays PAL) Is region 4 PAL?
I ripped the original DVD using DVD Decryptor 3.1.9 onto harddrive. Used DVD Shrink to back up only the movie (compression around 80%) The resulting DVD can be watched on puter only, but not on my Pioneer player.
Both the original and the copy plays kind of funny on the Pioneer, the picture flashes up and down like it need tracking (VHS) or something...after playing around with the DV-535K, I still couldn't figure what was wrong with the player. If the copied disk is in PAL, and region free, I should be able to play in any regular DVD player, including my Samsung I bought from Costco? Any suggestions??
Thanks, Anita.

I will assume that you live the US or Canada, from what you said. Your DVD player maybe able to play a PAL disc, but does it conver the PAL signal from the DVD into an NTSC signal that can be displayed on your TV? If the signal isn't converted from PAL to NTSC, it will appear on your TV exactly as you said.

What should I do? The samsung player won't play, I expected that. But, the Pioneer DV-535K plays both NTSC and PAL, why it won't play properly. That kind of bothered me. After all, I spent a little over $300 a few years ago to buy it.
