Dvd shrink 3.1 error message

I receive this error when I'm using this program to encode a back up of xmen2. "failed to read-data error-cyclic redundency check"

What exactly does this mean and can it be avoided?

two possible solutions:

1)wipe the disc clean
2)play the dvd for a few seconds on your software player (ex powerdvd) and then use shrink

try your other dvd drive to rip, I've had this several times with my Lite On, threw it in the Memorex Burner and avoided the error...dont know why.
