  1. Hey everyone. I did a little looking around on the internet and I can't find an answer. I just got my new PCI Firewire/USB 2.0 card and installed it. When I do that, my internet connection quits working. I tried doing the ipconfig/ release and renew..........then the repair in network connections. All of that.

The PCI Card install goes smoothly. I also noticed it makes a new 1394 Net Adapter under Network Connections. I can disable this and even delete it under Device Manager but I still have no connection.

I have take out the card and do a system restore in order to get my connection back.

Anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks

  2. Did you try moving it to a different PCI slot?

  3. If you have a local area connection icon in 'Connections' then the ethernet is working. If you don't then look in System Properties/Device Manager under Network Adapters for Network Connection. If it's not there I would move that PCI card to a different PCI slot. May be a IRQ conflict in that slot.

    Do you have the icon?

    Good luck.

  4. Ok... I switched PCI slots. But this time I had IE open and was constantly switching through threads on this forum just so it would keep its internet connection. Now, with this browser window, I can navigate anywhere on the net.

But when I open a new browser window, it is coming up with the " the page could not be displayed" window. So I have one window open and running the net and one window open that can't run it.

This is pretty damn weird. Atleast I know its not a IRQ conflict now.

As for my local area connection......I still have that icon there. As well as the original 1394 net adapter icon. Now after installing the PCI card, it gives me a third icon. This one is a new 1394 net adapter icon.

It doesnt matter if I disable this new one or completely delete it out of Device Manager......where it also appears along with my other 2 original icons.

Any new ideas? I am stumped here.

Thanks for any other support you can give me.

  5. It thinks the card is a way to access the net. You might try disabling the 1394s in Net Connections.
Or unistall from device manager then reinstall then disable in net conns.

  6. Well I figured it out. Just thought I would post in case someone else comes across this problem.

For some reason XP tries to make your firewire card your network connection.

I found this on the internet after digging........the last guys (bruce) method worked for me. But these other two might be what you need.

Good Luck and thanks again to everyone for the help.
