Hi everyone,

I am encountering very irritating problems when I play DVD-R’s on my standalone DVD player. When the movie is near the end (about 30 minutes before the end) the DVD starts skipping, at first just a couple of times, but after about three minutes of this behaviour it will finally skip whole scenes or chapters, or sometimes even just skip back to the end or freeze entirely.

I’ve tried different brands of DVD-R’s (both + and -) but it happens to all kinds and at random. My DVD player is a Philips DVD623 which according to the DVDRhelp.com guide does support all media (except DVD-RW) and people are even raving about the amount of media the player is compatible with. With DVD’s purchased in the store this never occurred.

When I play the same DVD on my computer’s DVD player everything is fine, no problems with it at all.

Sometimes I download DVD-R’s from a ‘trusted source’ and if I rip them I use DVDShrink. I burn all my DVD’s with a Sony DVD writer and Nero 6.

Is it possible that my DVD player has a problem playing DVD-R’s when the reach the end? Has anyone else had this problem and maybe a resolution? For example: should I burn or rip my DVD’s differently? or should I just get a new DVD player?

I will try to update my firmware to the latest version…maybe that will work. In the meantime I would be much appreciative of any of your comments or suggestions to solve this problem. As you might image it is very irritating since it happens right at the end of the movies when the plot reaches it’s climax.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Regards,
