  1. since it would have to involve encoding, im assuming this is the right forum?

    OK here is a question. I have a vcd right now for a film that is in the 1:85:1 ratio, you can clearly see that everyone is kind of squished. And to make a long story short, that was how whomever made the vcd (officially made). Someone i know took the disc and played it from the Malta dvd deck and using the machine's "fix ratio" button he put the film in it's proper 2:35:1. Now the pic is no longer squished and looks great. My question is if i ever run into this again with anything, is their anyway (say in tmpg) to actually fix this sort of problem?

    You can re-encode it to fix it. Mark your source as 16:9 and re-encode to 4:3.
