I have a movie here that is a couple of years old that I am trying to make a backup. It's a regular dvd movie. Dvd shrink wont read it because it says it has copy protection. I used dvd decrypter and it took off the files so I tried to open them up in Shrink and it closed it down and said it could not read the files. I then used smart ripper and dvd shrink read those files fine but after I shrank it and burned it,

DVD Shrink requires that you rip in file mode. It cannot read if you rip in ifo mode(DVD Decrypter) or movie mode(Smartripper).
I would guess that you ripped with Smartripper in file mode and that's why DVD Shrink was able to read the files. If you rip in file mode with DVD Decrypter,DVD Shrink wil be able to read the files. -
I did as you suggested and it did rip the files off correctly and dvd shrink did work with them this time. Now I have a new problem. When shrink is re-encoding the movie and you can see the preview pane, sometimes you see the movie and sometimes you see nothing but green. It alternates. The movie is called In The Bedroom and I want a backup for a trip Im taking. Its not a new movie. Is it somehow protected? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks.

Did u at least allow shrink to complete its work?....then did u watch the results? I would worry less about the preview pane (which, IMO is only there for reference), and focus on the end product. When I've used the preview pane...it jumps and skips and freezes etc. However, the DVD I ended up with looked excellent.
