I'm not entirely sure if this is possible or if this is the right place to post this question: Basically I have a DVD full of home movies that was authored by someone else. I'd like to be able to take chapters/titles from this DVD to make a new DVD without having to capture to avi and then reencode it using tmpgenc (it seems like some quality would be lost doing it this way). My question was this: is there any way to go backwards from a preauthored DVD full of .vob files and the like to the original .m2v and .mp2 elemental streams (or mpeg2 files depending on what the original author used)? Essentially the opposite of what tmpgenc dvd author does? Does this even make sense? Thanks in advance. I've looked through the forums and guides, but haven't found the answer I'm looking for.

Actually TMPGEnc DVD Author will extract the mpg from a vob file and put it on your hard drive. You can also use VobEdit to Demux the .m2v and audio streams to your hard drive.
Hope this helps -
Thanks, I think you got me pointed in the right direction. I didn't know the technical term for what I wanted to do: demultiplex. https://www.videohelp.com/faq#demultiplex

Hmm. I can not find any demux/demultiplex feature in TMPGenc DVD Author. Can you explain how to use this TDA to demux MPEG files. I have version 1.5.19.59.
Do you know how to demux a VTS series of .VOB files into a single continuous MPEG file with both audio and video (or just video)? For instance, three .VOB files exist as VTS_1_01.VOB, VTS_1_02.VOB and VTS_1_03.VOB that are a 90 minute movie and I want to extract the MPEG-2 video and AC3/MPEG audio from all those .VOB files as a single 90 minute .MPG file? This is sorta the reverse operation of making a DVD from video and audio components or from .MPG files.
Also see this forum post and this forum post on the same issue.
I think TMPGEnc (encoder) and VOBrator can demux individual .VOB files.
