  1. I want to capture MPEG2 at 720 x 480, and get the highest quality possible while still being able to fit 2 1/2 hours on a DVD. Any suggestions as to what bitrate I should be capturing at? Can I capture at 3.5 Mbps like I do with 352 X 480, or do I have to capture at a higher bitrate for the bigger resolution? Thanks.

  2. From my calculations based on past experiences, in order to get 150 minutes of 720x480 mpeg2 onto a standard DVD, you you need encode at 3.990 Mbps or less. I have been using the formula 598533/bitrate = minutes on DVD.

I hope this works for you.

This method has been quite succesful for me when capturing vhs.
    Capture at 720X480, 6Mbs, 48k audio
Author the mpg to dvd and add chapters, and menu's if you wish.
Use dvdshrink with deep analasys to fit to dvdr
    Done.
It's been my experience that a capture using the above method
    gives me a crisper, more dvd-like, look than a 320X480 low-bit capture.
Burn to an rw and see if it works for you.

    Happy capping
