  1. Hi there.
I have bought an Emac 1,0 ghz 246 Ram , 60gb H/d model I have bought a Lite-on Dvd Writer +/- 4 Speed which is in an External USB 2.0 Enclosure.

The problem i am having is backing aup a copied dvd, I know my disc are only 2 speed disc but it is taking over 1 1/2 hours to copy my dvd from the internal dvd drive in my Emac to my external dvd writer, surely this cant be right

Hope you have some ideas please.

    Thanks

PS IM very very new to a Mac and wonder why i bothered sometimes

  2. Are you copying disc to disc? What is the read speed of your internal drive? What program are you using to copy the disc? Is your eMac USB 1 or USB 2? All these things may affect your process.

Additionally if that eMac you bought has USB1.1 ports, that burn time sounds about right for a disc being burned at 1x speed while reading from the other optical disc drive.

i agree. the speed of the burn is only as fast as its slowest data transfer point

believe it or not, but you wont really get full 2x burn unless you have that bad boy in a firewire enclosure.

i think the only mac with USB 2.0 is the G5 so you are not getting the full potential of that enclosure. If you got a firewire enclosure your speeds will increase
