I set the perference into default DVD-5 (4.7G) which = 4464MB. After the movie ripped, using RecordNow Dx some movies will not burn because it came little too big. I know I'm not using cheap discs.
I being using custom setting of 4370MB = 4369MB on DVDShrink just to be on the safe side, but I want to use the maximum available on the disc..shouldn't DVDShrink default be lower or am I setting wrong..?
Any help be appreicated!

when burning a dvd it is not best to fill the dvd to the maximum because you may get playback problems at the end of the movie. Just my opinion.

Some disks will not compress to 4.37Gb's unless you delete some audio streams. DVD Shrink like all transcoders has limit to it's video compression ratio.
I always burn my DVD-R's to full capacity, never had a problem. The last 5 minites of the disk(150-200MB's) are credits anyway, who cares if you get some playback glitches on the credits -
The American Animal Humain Association ?
I hear they can get pretty p1ssed...

mine is set at the defulat (4464MB iirc), and when I load up my burning software, it actually states that I have an extra 16MB of disc space available. So really, I don't know you are getting that problem.

PC2K1, what DVD Shrink version are you using?
I'd suggest you give v3.1.3 a try, as the initial "quick" analysis has been improved (to the cost of speed).
The estimation of the titles sizes should be better. -
@ shelbyGT,
"FINDING NEMO" full screen version, RecordNow Dx won't burn after DVDShrink ripping via Default DVD-5(4.7G) of 4464MB. Let us know how you did it in "FINDING NEMO"...may be you have a different burning ware? I like RecordNow Dx is easy to use..I tried Nero before not much luck before PC crashing, unstable, memory hogger, etc.., I still couldn't distinguish their products too many version.
@ ddlooping,
Used DVDShrink both version 30b5 & 312 in deep analysis and non deep analysis. -
PC2K1, how many DVDs has this happened with?
Could you list some of them? -
@ ddlooping,
FINDING NEMO, WINGED MIGRATION, HARRY POTTER..just to name a few... -
I usually set the size to 4350MB
By the time you compile your ISO IMAGE file using the classic version of ImgTools and then burn to a DVD-R or DVD+R you get about 4.24GB or 4.25GB as your final size.
That's close enough that I feel like I'm not getting "cheated" out of space but I also don't have edge disc playback problems.
Although that can be avoided by using really good quality media.
In any event I would never pick a size more than 4400MB ... anything higher than that is simply "pushing" the limit of the disc just a "bit" too much if you ask me.
Also keep in mind that a DVD+R has ever-so-slightly less capacity than a DVD-R disc.

PC2K1, I've never heard of DVD Shrink oversizing backups when deep analysis was used, unless its minimum compression ratio had been reached.
Was it the case with these DVDs?
(you can check by changing the compression "ratio" to "Custom ratio" and by trying to lower it down)
