  3. Well I will take a stab at it. When you say you need a good program....are you talking a good program to capture with or a good processor. Cause your poll indicates a whole new processor. With that will probably come a new motherboard and sticks of ram.

If you did mean processor(cpu) then I would go with the 3.2 Intel with Hyperthreading. I hear it is a lot better for video encoding and what not. Plus I see the AMD 64 bit too new. I know alot of people say it works great but I am going to wait for Windows Longhorn to finally ship before I go to a 64 bit platform.

If you meant capturing program then I would go with something like WinDV or ScenalyzerLive. You can find these in the Tools section.

Now if you want some editing software to edit your movies, I would suggest a Ulead Program such as VideoStudio 7 or Pinnacle Studio 9. Or if you have the money and want to learn how to edit in depth and want lots of functionality I would go with Adobe Premiere Pro($799.00).

But as far as just taking movies to your computer..........just go with either one of those capturing programs and your firewire input. You wont need a capture card because you are using your firewire from the camera. Your firewire on your DV cam will bring it to the computer with no problem. As far as the Sound Card breakout box.......you probably won't use much of that seeing as how your audio and video is transferred through the Firewire.

Hope this helps. Also search forums and read up on it. It's the only way you will learn. Lots of good guides on this site as well.

  6. If your gonna go with 64bit processor you might as well just wait until Windows releases their next operating system. By that time most companies will make their products 64bit compatible and you can will be able to take full advantage of the 64bit platform.

Plus the prices will be a little bit lower and there will probably be a much faster cpu out there.

Good luck and if you need anything that you can't find.......just ask.

Currently, AMD64 is useless for this hobby.

In the matter of fact, this month is the worst period to buy a good CPU. IMHO, or you get a cheap AMD 2600XP just to do your job now or you get a HT Intel, at double price, just for the encoding speed you gain with this CPU...
