I downloaded a movie and it came in a folder with all the .vob files and everything. I burned the movie to a DVD and now when I stick it in my player it says "Playback Prohibited by area limitations". When I stick the DVD in my DVD-rom im able to play it just fine.
Can some1 tell me how do I burn the files so they play on DVD players?

use SHRINK on the burnt DVD then select region free and reburn a fresh dvd using the new region free VOB's

If the disk is region free
Oh I checked MY disc with nero infotool and it says
Video Format: Pal 3:4 (mpeg 2, 720X576)
Region(s): ALL
Is the stand alone dvd player region free too ? or locked to your region 1 but it still should play a region free diskIt appears that the CPU was operating so fast that it began to execute instructions before they arrived. Is nero infotool telling you the drive is region free or the disk is region free ???
???
Just a thought as the disk if its region free should play on any stand alone playerIt appears that the CPU was operating so fast that it began to execute instructions before they arrived. The DVD that plays on your standalone is NTSC.
The DVD that does not play on your standalone is PAL.
Since you are in North America the odds are pretty good that both your standalone player and your television set are capable of playing only NTSC. The odds are also pretty good that your PC software player can play both NTSC and PAL.

You're asking for trouble if you're using your PS2 as a settop DVD player dude.
If in doubt, Google it.

well im not using it but I just wanted to know if it can run Pal formats.. I take it from your response that I cant ?
Also.. Cant I simply REconde the movie Under NTSC format? I know with MY VCDs I use to encode to differnt formats all the time but I think DVD might be differnt?

Thats OK dude - You inferred that you were using your PS2. No drama. I would think PS2 should play PAL. You can re-encode DVDs, but you have to demux into audio and video streams and then re-encode to MPEG2 and then author.
If in doubt, Google it.

I can't remember coming across any guides that myself that specifically deal with this issue, but from my own playing around I have found a good way to do this:
1. Demux using DVD2AVI.
Start DVD2AVI. Press F3. Browse to VTS_xx_1.VOB (The first VOB of the titleset you wish to demux). This will fill the next box with the rests of the files in that titleset. Press OK. Go to Audio Menu. Set Dolby Digital to Decode All Tracks and MPEG Audio to Demux All Tracks. Press F4. Specify your destination directory. This will create a d2v file for the video and an AC3 file for each Dolby Digital audio channel.
2. Re-encode video using TMPGEnc.
Start TMPGEnc. Load the NTSC DVD template. Load the d2v file as your video source. This should output to a m2v file. Process.
3. Re-encode audio using HeadAC3He.
Start HeadAC3He. Select one of the demuxed audio streams as your audio source,. Specify a destination file. Select your format - you can use WAV or MP2. WAV will take up a lot more space but you need to download a plugin to be able to encode into MP2. Your choice. Make sure that the destination is resampled to 48000Hz.
4. Remux using TMPGEnc.
Start TMPGEnc. GO to MPEG Tools. Go to the Simple Multiplex tab. Specify your m2v and your WAV/MP2 files. Join. This will give you an MPEG2 file.
5. Author using TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Start TMPGEnc DVD Author. Go to Add FIle. Add your MPEG2 File. Press the output button.
You now have converted PAL to NTSC.If in doubt, Google it.

My suggestion is to install and run ANYDVD avalable from the makers of CloneCD. Go to http://www.slysoft.com/en/ for more info. Its an invisible driver that runs and will make Anything region free, no matter what.
A good example: I have a dvdr that dvddecryptor and dvdshrink BOTH say is region free, yet if i play it in windvd or powerdvd, it says Region 2. If i run anydvd while running the dvd, viola. No problems whatsoever.
Give that a whirl and see if that helps.

i was just thinking that maybe the downloaded dvd didnt have the RCE removed from it. rip the dvdr you burned with dvd decrypter to an iso file & then try burning it again.
try a dvdrw first, so you dont waste another disc.
