  1. Hi i have a leadtek winfast 2000 deluxe card. I want to be able to capture video using the CVD capture specs. 352X480. but the winfast program doesnt let me capture at that format. i also want to ne able to use variable bitrate along with constant. Do u know of any programs that have this flexibilty. I used Ulead video studio 7 but when i try to capture i get an error using any of the mpeg formats, Something about graph failed or something like that. I dont want to convert the captured video. I want to capture directly at these settings. Thanks

  2. The latest version of WinFast PVR doesn't support 352x480 resolution. I think you have to download an old version of WinFast PVR application. I don't remember exactly which version supports it (cuz I'm not infront of my PC at this moment.) I thought something like... around early 2003 version... 01/30/03? one support the 352x480 resolution. Anyway, it's upto which version of WinFast PVR.

I've updated to the very latest PVR app and drivers, and can vouch that half D1 resolution (352x480) is not in the app. Unfortunately I really would like to capture in that format... I also suspected it was in an older version of the WinPVR app as other posts here mentioned that they used it.

I know it's not a driver limitation as WinDVR (intervideo) supports capturing in 352x480 but it has some audio issues--sound flutters are what I'm hearing.

Thus, anybody know of a way to hack the current version of WinPVR to enable 352x480 (perhaps there's a registry switch, or a DLL/EXE bit that can be toggled)?

Would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help.

NOTE: The latest version of WinPVR has an option to use custom or variable bitrate for MPEG2 Captuter (it's a pull-down box, select one or the other, variable is default).

Just a bump because I did some more research. I downloaded the 30513 PVR App from Leadtek and manually extracted just the WFTV.EXE file. I was able to launch it (but it didn't detect my card). Once it loaded I was able to go into the config and confirm it had a choice for 352x480 resolution. Using just that EXE and all the other files/registry/etc-- so it's definitely hardcoded into the app. I'm not sure which release they removed it from.

-note: I could not install/use both versions of the app, the old version's exe just ran enough for me to investigate what capture modes it supported, it did not detect the card installed. I could probably hack some more at it, but, the later versions have a lot of fixes... --

The latest winfast app, 040102, as well as the last few releases do not have the 352x480 capture mode. So, I either have to settle for less quality or stress the CPU capturing at 720x480, or use an older/buggier version of the application.

I made a report to Leadtek support via their website. I don't know why they removed that mode, perhaps it was an oversight, perhaps there was a problem they didn't feel like fixing, but, unless others complain or ask for it, it probably won't be back. So, contact their support and let them know you'd like HalfD1 mode back (352x480).

This affects all Leadtek Cards that use WinPVR as the capture application.

  5. The older version of WinfastPVR often having problem on capture in my case. The 040102 version mush stable but can't capture in 352x576 format

Two alternatives I think of, first using VirtualVCR instead. It's less user-friendly than WinfastPVR but allow to capture at any size. With a scheduler, VVCRS2, it work fine and free. Use "VirtualVCR for Leadteak TV2000XP", https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=51#comments.

Second alternative, capture at bigger size and resize later. It may require longer time to encode, don't know how much time longer but going to try this method later.

One more thing you can do, send an Email to Leadtek, tell them what we want!!!

I have the version that came with the CD (3 something) and it doesn't support 352 x 480 either. Have tried the latest version PVR? It came out the first of the year. There also is a more recent driver. If you have tried it, what do you think? Worth the update?

You can use Ulead VS 7. I used to get the same error as you do and thought it was a bug. In Capture mode, click on options, then Capture Options, then select "Force to use preview mode". That fixed it for me. You can then select 352x480 resolution and any other option under mpeg.

  8. two other possibilities is to use powervcrII, which via a registry change (do a search for the info) allows you to capture at 352x480.

Also IUVCR and freevcr allow you to capture (AVI) at the 352x480 resolution.

FYI, I tried the very latest Leadtek WinPVR 40120 and it also does not have the 352x480 mode. I did send a report to Tech Support and a follow-up and both times he said he will forward the request to .TW for the developers to look into.

Whether or not they ever bring it back is TBD, but, I've done what I can. It's all your turns now.

I'll try some of the other options listed here. WinDVR has audio issues so that ones out. Dscaler didn't work properly with my Expert card (CX881), but it looks like they are working on that too.

Did you notice any improvements with the latest PVR? I also wonder if it is no longer updated for 98 since the website only lists it for XP and 2000.
