  1. 80min CD-R's came out a couple years after the 74min ones were released. Will 9GB DVD's be released to the general public?

Doubtfull. I believe the companies are looking at alternatives that yield higher capacity. Plus the fact that I don't think there is anyway to burn a duel layer DVD, it has to be pressed.

No - these are being released only to people with high-level contacts to the media world. I've been able to snag a few of them and they burn just fine in my DVR-A04 :jester:

  6. They won't release the DVD9 media for they already released DVD blue laser (DVD5 and DVD9 use red laser beam). TYoshiba is the first launched DVD blue laser disk and current price for each media is UD$72.oo (this type of media supported by LG, Samsung, SONY, Pioneer, Panasonic so far. Capacity of each blue laser media is 9 films in a disk.

Really? Where are these available, and where are the blue-laser burners on sale?

rhegedus -- SLK001 is just jerking your and IBeThaGreatOne's chains. Dual-layer DVD-/+R(W) (in any incarnaiton) media and burners do not exist.

    Why not, you ask?

Short answer: Dual-layer DVD-R does not, and likely never will, exist due to a variety of technical obstacles that will be difficult, if not impossible to overcome in the near future while maintaining backwards compatibility with current burners and players.

Long answer: See my post in this thread for a detailed explanation of the problem. (Yes, yes, I know, it needs to be added to the FAQ section! I'm working on it. )

As for the blue-laser stuff -- note that the format being introduced by Toshiba is not the much talked-about "Blu-Ray" format; this is their own design which has been developed outside the forum, which is likely to result in (say it with me now, everyone ) Yet Another Incompatible Format War when it goes up against the real Blu-Ray.

jwsons -- At $72.00 a disc, I think I can live with my $3 DVD-R media a while longer. Would you care to provide your source for the claim that Toshiba's system is already on sale, though? I can't seem to find any evidence of this in a Google search, though I do see quite a few articles mentioning it being in development...
