I am capturing old VHS tapes using Studio 8 through an ATI VIVO card on a dedicated editing PC using win2k, 7200 HDD's etc.

Once captured the .avi will play in Studio 8's preview window, I can see the audio sequence in the time-line but it simply won't play.

I've tried capturing using Virtualdub with the same effect, I've tried playing back through Media player and still get the same effect.

The most frustrating thing is that prior to upgrading the capture card from an old ATI AIW card I didn't have the problem (I've even re-fitted that card and still can't hear the audio!).

Can anyone advise on what I should try next (or which size hammer to use to encourage it to work!).

    Many thanks

    Tony

Do you have the audio connected to teh line-in on your soundcard? If not, you might switch it to there and see if that solves teh problem.

A standard 16oz should work well while provideing reasonable
control. However a 5lb sledge will work much faster if control is not needed. Removing card from pc first would be advised.

    Thanks guys

Feel a bit of a fool - audio socket was in the wrong plug! I must get some lighting under the desk!

Working fine now. (and I thought I'd checked all the obvious things)

Advice re. hammer size has been bookmarked for next time - think I might use it on my head instead of the PC though

    Thanks
