LG 4040B won't burn at 4X, speed fluctates.

I'm having problems trying to get this burner to burn at 4X, when I use DVD Decrypter to burn something it will burn at around 3.2-3.7X, the speed will fluctuate up and down and so will the device buffer. I'm running Windows XP and the burner was setup as Multi-Word DMA, I thought that was the problem and that it should be set to ultra DMA so I install the burner on another computer of mine, also running XP and it was setup as ultra DMA on this computer but now it burns even slower, around 2.8X, the burning speed and device buffer always fluctuating up and down. I tried nero but its the same. It'll take me now about 20 minutes to burn a full DVD-R. I hear many people complain about this burner not burning at 4X but it seems for them it will only burn up to 2X, I can burn faster than that but never steady at 4X, the speed will always fluctuate up and down. Most of my DVDs come out OK but I would like to solve this problem once and for all

I have the latest firmware, A302. I have used Riteks, Ricohs and Taiyo Yudens so I don't think its the media.

I only have A300 in mine. Peaks at 4.1x in DVDDecrypter....with Ritek GO4's.

I would not blame the writer, it's probably more likely your setup (Hardware),
more LG 4040b are now burning at 4x than 2x.
I personnaly use Princo's and have burnt over 60 at 4x, ie, 13 to 14 minutes
for 4.35 gig.
Im still waiting for my first coaster!?.
