  1. I might be in the minority here, but I still use 1x media most of the time. Can get it real cheap ($.50 each) and have NEVER had a bad burn.

But, the real reason why I use 1x media is that I can do other things on my PC (like playing DOD with my son) while burning a DVD. Sure, I could use 2x or 4x, but if I look at the average write rate of the burn, it is usually around 1x, so why waste money on 4x media. This is of course IF I am doing other things on the PC. If all I am going to do is burn, then I will use 4x to save time.

And no, my PC is no slouch. Just look at the specs.

Just passing on what I do to hopefully save other people some $$. Half of which I expect to receive in my PayPal account

  2. No. I could care less.

I burn DVDs at 1X or 2.4X and CDs at 8X-12X. I'm neither in a hurry or backlogged enough to care about recording speed.

I've often wondered if this is why I rarely choke up a coaster. Even with mediocre media provided by cheap-ass friends, I still don't have problems.

it's worth it to a point.

I was paying about .80 per disc for discs that burned at 2x, so discs for around .95 that burn at 4x are an okay price / performance point.

but I've waited about a year for prices to drop on 4x media - I wasn't going to spend 2.50 per disc for the added speed.

I'm really waiting for the 8x media to drop, so I can start getting the 4x media really cheap...

I prefer to burn at 1 speed aswell, it's not as if i'm doing ten a day or something.
but i'm having trouble finding 1x media.
Prefer Datawrite-yellow, never had one coaster, but i can only find them at 4x

I burn x1 with my burner (my burner is x1) and x48 with my cdrw (my cdrw is x48).
Not because I like the fastest I can but because CDR's are peanuts nowadays.

    "Err no...."
"But you do have all the characteristics of a dog Gary...all except loyalty."

  10. i usually burn at 1x or 2x, depending on the media i'm using.. sometimes my cousin will steal some 4x dvdr's from where he works for me... and man, i tell ya.. there's nothing like burning a full dvdr in 15 minutes.. i hate waiting an hour for a dvd burn, even 30 minutes is getting on my nerves.. hopefully 8x dvd media brings the price of 4x down to something that i would actually pay for.

Always burn at 4X. 4x dvd's are cheap these days, especially if you find them on sale. And it might be a difference in computers, but I play DOD all the time (in fact admin a server), and never have encountered a slowdown when playing dod and burning a dvd.
