Been having ALOT of ghosting troubles off my Panny E50 when my Pacific 1002W was plugged into it. The actual ghost was of the 1002Ws image, meaning if I recorded from AV2, id get the ghost as well
After alot of messing, here is the solution if anyone is having ghosting problems.
Equipment needed: 2 Fully Wired scart leads.
Steps:
1) Plug scart lead from TV to panny into AV1 on panny.
2) Plug scart lead from Pacific 1002W (or your DVD player model) into AV2.
3) On Remote:
a) Functions;
4) Then on screen display:
a) SETUP
b)CONNECTION
c)AV1 / AV2 Settings
5) Now set AV1 Output and AV2 Input to both RGB.
This not only instantly solved the ghosting, but gave me a sharper picture and more vibrant colours.
Sorry if you already knew this but I did a search and couldnt find anything, I typed this up for searching reference for people in the future.
PS. This may only work on PAL set ups.

I dont have the above problem but..
I noticed that when I recorded Satellite program with Panny E80 and Tv set using channel 3 (TV and recorder) I got some interference that recorded on the disc.
By (accident?) playing around I set recorder to L1 and problem solved..
clean transmission.
Perhaps my wiring (cables)not hooked up properly.
Pehaps the manual does refer to the use of L1 like this.
