Is that a certain format like MPEG or AVI? What is the file extension of the captured files?

You're right, it does usually mean mpeg. If the file does not load into TMPGEnc, try to load it into Virtual Dub mod. Let us know what happens.

  7. Two things:

    1) when you double click the file, does it play or give an error?

    2) Download/install AVIcodec , find your file in Windows Explorer (which I assume you are using), right click the filename and select "AVIcodec: detailed information". It should give you information about your file to determine the proper means of encoding/authoring it.

  8. Maybe set the priorities in TMPGenc as per:

Can you be more specific? At what point are you getting the error? Which program is giving you the error?

  10. What res and bitrate settings, and version of MMC, are you using? More info is required.

A common problem with MMC is the padding stream which it builds into the file. Running the file through TMPGENC Merge and Cut will Demux/Remux the file, rebuild the header, and remove the padding stream, or at least reduce its size to zero. This has always worked for me, as long as the file specs are DVD-Compliant.

  11. Well I have finally figured out how to take D* captured video and burn it to SVCD! it works great on all the DVD players Ive tried them on but it will only hold so much video...I can't get the mpeg files to load in any of the programs i've tried ....it says that there either an illegal format or an unexpected format..I have tmpgenc, virtual dub, shrink, virtual vcr,.....but they don't seem to recognize the files when i go to place them into the programs themselves.....at least i can get it to burn to cd-r...if anybody has any step by step ways of puting DirecTv to dvd .using the programs i mentioned above ...I will be forever be thankful to you

If you decide to try TMPGEnc again, adjust your VFAPI priorities using this article.

  13. Gosh, only SO much? You should be able to get SOME more to fit.

Detailing the settings you use would be immensely helpful. Since you seem unwilling or unable to do this, I have no further suggestions.
