  1. Anybody out there have any problems with the DVD Matchstick Men? It contains 300Mb of dummy data as far as I can tell. DVD Decrypter hangs on this. I had no success with any program. I did manage to get an image using ISObuster, a very old program. However the image still contains the dummy data. I am gonna try to extract the dummy data and recode.

  2. So you're having problems even ripping to hdd? I had no problem ripping it... But am having problems backing it up, using IC8---sizing is waaay off. So I just used DVD2One and CloneDVD2 to back up (to compare quality).

Have you tried using SmartRipper or playing the DVD on your pc for a few minutes before ripping? As to 'dummy' files, where do you see them? I see 8 PGC's and only 1 or 2 or dummy but no where near 300MB..

  3. I Used both DVD Decrypter and Smartripper with the same results, even tried different originals, from what I can tell VTS-01-5.vob, at approx 75% transfer of that vob, either program stalls and locks-up. At 75% it is @ 782mb into the file. ISO buster seems to have made a good copy however it still gets pixel's at that point. I'm guessing it is a layer-change point and that is where I'm having the problems.

  6. I had no problem ripping it to my HD, but I'm having trouble backing it up. I use DVD2DVD with CCE when I can, but it keeps giving me the same error during the second pass. It keeps saying that the size changed or something like that. Anyone have any suggestions before I break down and use DVDShrink or CloneDVD?

  7. Have to agree with pops I did it the same way and it was fine...however, I usesd the re-author function to put the movie on one disc and the extras on another.
Look, let me explain something. I'm not Mr. Lebowski; you're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--

  8. Hmm, have tried 4 different DVD Drives, purhaps it's the place I'm getting the disk, is it conceivable that there would be different disks via Rental or Retail?

  10. Same here.. used DVD Shrink, reauthor to get just the movie, then Nero. Backed up great.

  11. Redhawk,

I think CCE keeps giving you errors b/c the VOB's consist of a chain of various PGC's, mixed with the movie (16:9 progressive FILM) and the extras, which are probably something other than progressive FILM, i.e., interlaced 4:3, which require different settings in CCE.. (I think.. ??).

I thing you'd have to locate the actual movie-only VOB's, then re-encode those alone.. and re-author the whole DVD structure.. (or just keep the movie only on a DVD-R).

I finally backed up using IC8, but had to play around with IC Settings.. finally got movie down to 4.37G with IC Settings sized to 3.95Gb (on the 2nd page of settings).

  12. jbenj01 you're right. I eventually just used DVDshrink to reauthor. After cutting out the WB intro and most of the credits I was able to avoid any compression.

Before doing that, though, I extracted the movie only via DVD Decrypter then reauthored the ifos and vob pointers with Ifoedit. It gave me a set of vobs (movie only) that worked perfectly in PowerDVD but was still too big to burn directly to DVD+r. So I tried to reencode it with CCE but it still gave the same error as before. I don't know what the problem was but I hope I don't have it again.

  13. Just curious... How did you extract movie-only with Decrypter? In IFO mode? B/c you can't in File mode, don't think..

  14. Yeah, i used ifo mode with stream processing to remove all the other language tracks and subtitles. When I had tried to extract just the vobs containing the movie, it also contained some of the extras which screwed everything up.

  15. IF you still want to try, I think a way to get to just the movie is to import the complete m2v file into TMPGEnc Plus, which then allows you to edit/cut whatever portions you don't want out of the video, i.e., extras..

So basically you'd locate the beginning and end of movie and cut out the rest.. then re-encode using CCE.. Haven't tried worth a try next time I run across one of these 'types' of DVD's that I'm trying to backup.
