divx->vcd - problem with preview and subtitles

Hello,

I have a divx that plays perfectly (with subtiles) in ffmpegx when I hit the "Play" button. However, I'm having a couple of problems:

1) When I hit the "Preview" button before I start encoding, nothing happens. Does Preview work before encoding starts, or only after?

2) Encoding to VCD does work, but the subtitles aren't present. Is it possible to encode a VCD with subtitles?

If it matters, the subtitle file has a .sub extension.

The preview works after encoding starts, and previews the portion of movie already encoded so far.
