  1. Hi there, need some info please (sorry if this is in the wrong place but I cant make head or tail of the Forum structure at this site). Is it recommended to burn a dvd at 1x speed only for the reason of avoiding burn errors, or does it also produce a dvd that can be read easier or is a better quality burn. If my burns are all succeeding at max speed, would it be better to burn my dvd at 1x, would they play better in my ps2 machine because theyre burnt slower? I mainly burn backups of my original PS2 games, and thus far have done them all at max speed. Thank you!

I have always burned at 4x and had no problems. If you use good media, burning programs and a good burner, I wouldn't worry about it. At least with CD burners, they work best at the designed max speed. I would assume DVD burners would be the same.

Hi speed burning of DVDs should be ok, provided media is of good quality.
I've had some playback issues with really cheap x4 DVD-R media burned at x4 (AN32 more specifically) but the probs persisted or were made even worse when burned at x2 or x1.

    Good Luck

  4. I've read information from CDRINFO.COM and they suggest burning at the lowest speed produces the least amount of read errors from lasers. From personal experience I find this true. For instance, my Apex player will have serious trouble reading some media burned at 2X but it will definately handle a 1X burned disc fine. Although both of these can be read fine on other players and definately almost all PC DVD-ROMs.

It all depends on how well the laser can read without picking up too much errors along the way (it's actually not the disc that has actual errors). For someone who wants the BEST compatibility for any player, they will burn at 1X.

  5. I have never had any problems when burning dvds at 1x. I used to try and save time by burning them at 2x or faster and I ended up getting a lot of failed discs and had to reburn it at 1x, so now I burn everything at the slowest possible speed.
